Hi Guys, it’s Vika.
Since summer vacation has started for me, I have written out a few writing goals:
- Generate more experiences and material
- Post for you guys at least once each week
- Meet with fellow kid writers face to face
- Write a draft of the story I want to eventually publish
To anyone who doesn’t have anything in mind over break, I strongly recommend using some of your free time to work on a writing project this summer. I hope I am not the only one who has more time now…..
Anyway, I started working on my story and noticed that I was struggling with the exposition. Then I noticed that I didn’t know what the climax was. Or the ending, really. Part of this was due to the fact that I had no idea who my main character was as a person. I am still figuring out her dreams, motives, skills, and view on life.
So, born from all of my suffering was the not so unique idea of a character questionnaire. You know, a bunch of questions the character has to answer honestly in their normal speech, language, and dialect. Sounds fun, right? Maybe not so practical, but I don’t know yet and ya’ll are invited to find out with me. I found some links online for questionnaires meant to help people talk about themselves. What I’m doing, and what I suggest anyone else with this problem does, is pretend you are this character and take these quizzes to your heart’s desire. Here they are:
Job Interview: https://elc.polyu.edu.hk/cill/eiw/interviews/
National Geographic Kids Personality Quizzes: https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/explore/adventure_pass/personality-quizzes/
Tween Personality Quiz: https://teens.lovetoknow.com/Tween_Personality_Quiz
If you aren’t sure about a question, skip it or make something up! That’s what I’ve been trying to do. I’ll tell you where this winds up!
Have fun!
Vika
