Change Your Mood

Skill: Mood

Mood is often something that is overlooked, but it is really a sub-section of setting. It is quite important, for example, if the mood is dark and dreary, you would not want to write something about flowers blossoming or the bright shining sun. I had a lot of trouble with this type of writing, so I decided to post about it.

In this exercise, I used different moods in a scene. Pick a scene in your piece of writing, and then choose at least three moods that you could show this scene in. Here is a list of some positive moods you could consider using:

  • Amused
  • Cheerful
  • Optimistic
  • Peaceful
  • Energetic
  • Dreamy
  • Loving

Also, try using some negative moods, such as:

  • Frustrated
  • Guilty
  • Sad
  • Depressed
  • Gloomy
  • Rejected
  • Cranky
  • Stressed
  • Weird

I recommend using at least one positive mood and one negative mood just to see how it makes a difference. Now, it is your turn to change the mood of your writing!

Good Luck!
